The ISTD tech is comparable to the Eurotest in terms of challenging hurdles, but as always, with the right preparation it becomes a question of when rather than if. We will train to meet the criteria that is fundamental to the exam making sure that you have a clear idea of what you must achieve, how to do it and where your strengths and weaknesses lie. This will require you to show a good technical basis that won't break down in the following environments

  • Bumps
  • Off-piste & variable terrain
  • Steeps slopes
  • Piste [medium radius and short radius]

...Variable and bumps training...

We will train to be prepared for all eventualities along a broad range of skills and manouvres, tasks and tactics. Trying to 'second guess' what short turn or what you will be asked to do is not an effective training plan. It's better to work on having good skills and movements that give you solid performances across the board.

The criteria are simple:

Good ski perfomance / effective balance and posture / minimum speed

What we will do on the ISTD training courses is interpret how the criteria fit to the above environments and more importantly, interpret how your skiing meets the criteria.

We will run training weeks in the periods preceding the ISTD exams in Courchevel/Meribel.

This will be in January and April usually. Check the News page regularly for updates and info on courses.

These courses have proved very successful with five people attending the training pre Zermatt session this year who all went on to pass their exams
