The Tignes STGM have requested that we pay for all lift passes in a lump sum on the Monday mornings. This means all your lift pass money must reach me by Sunday night at the latest accompanied by a photo. Call me if this is a problem Check out autumn 08 planner and first day details information for weeks from 16/11! The autumn training camps are pretty much full and we're now looking to get going asap! We've got a great programme worked out with some exciting changes to the on and off hill training to make it even more effective. Itsounds like we have a good group of trainees ready to put each other to the test on the timing and that's exactly what we need as we move towards December! Remember the closing dates for Alpe d'Huez December tests is 10 Nov and the closing dates for the Alpe d'huez January test is 01 Dec. Check out the BASI Eurotest page for any more details http://basi.org.uk/course_disc.aspx?did=9 There's a few good second hand deals on GS skis at the moment so keep checking the equipment page if you are still looking.
Ski prep kit and everything else?
Check out the site www.skiracing.co.uk for some great deals on ski tuning kit as well as kit, skis...and everything else. Moreover, this business helps support Dave Ryding of the British team - one of our strongest skiing hopes!
AVMS training needed? Podium doesn't just run Eurotest training. We also runs AVMS training with Interski for those wishing to work in the Val d'Aosta for Interski and we hope to run separate AVMS training groups from the Eurotest groups this year. Lift pass information Podium members are able to get a 10% discount on their lift passes. For all members it is essential that you get the lift passes through us. Tignes operates a system whereby the coaches get free passes depending on the number of course members brought in. If everyone bought their pass individually, then the course cost would have to be raised in order cover coaching staff lift passes. Last year Tignes policy for ski clubs and stages [inc. Podium] was • 10% off stated public price according to the season. • If you are there for an extended period, you can pay the maximum 21 day duration [- 10%] and then an extension rate for every extra day of approx 8 euros. This effectively means you can get a 4 week lift pass for the price of a 3 week lift pass. Prices differ according to the date you buy the pass as the autumn dates cross various seasons from inter to autumn to winter. Buying at the start of November I estimate you are looking at circa 350 euros for a 21 day pass. For an idea of Tignes lift pass prices check www.tignes.net/tarifs_0809.html
24/7/2008...ski reg confirmation for Eurotest 2008-9 In the FIS publication for ski regulations and equipment for season 2008-2009, it is stated that 21m remains the minimum length for FIS giant slaloms [although not Europa Cup, World Cup etc]. In short this means that people with GS skis from last year may not need to buy new ones [unless they're knackered!] and anyone buying this year will have no problems as the manufacturers build skis to the regulations in force.
9/7/2008 Prices confirmed for Autumn 2008 training in Tignes The price per week training block is 220€ for the Tignes autumn training. There are also discounts available for returning trainees. Email for the 2008 pricing sheet and payment methods. We may restrict traininig in most weeks to 2 groups this year so there may be limited places. Make sure you reserve yours! Podium also get great camp rate discounts on lift passes.
6/7/2008 A heartfelt goodbye to Ali Rainback.
Ali was one of the Britain's best ski instructors and passed away on the 22nd June 2008 from a tumour of the brain stem. After the discovering of his condition in November 2007, Ali battled bravely and with a dignity and integrity of character that few of us could hope to possess. Aside from his skiing achievements, Ali was one of the nicest, personable people you could meet and had an infectious enthusiasm and positive drive for everything he did. He will be sorely missed by myself and many, many others. A fund has been set up in his name to make money for the hospice that supports other people in Ali's situation. Any donations would be gratefully recieved. http://www.justgiving.com/alirainback

Summer camp 2008 Les 2 Alpes The camp was a great success with hard pistes to train on and great weather. A big thank you to all the participants. The camp included some great developmental training to really improve the skiing skills of the guys on the course. It also included evening sessions on stretching, core training, coordination as well as trips white water rafting, visits to the Venosc adventure park and for some a cycle up the famous climb of Alpe d'Huez! Well done to Blake Williams for a convincing victory on the final day race and timing day.
Well done to Danny McCabe who decided to celebrate his 48th birthday with an assault of Alpe d'Huez [1100m of vertical and a 14km road] alongside Dave Mitchell and Dave Morris on this year's summer training.
6/6/2008 New Podium ISIA course for 2008. An ISIA training course is to be run in the 3 Valleys for winter 2009. This will involve periodised training to optimise performance and slalom and GS training. Why not train with a trainer who knows the technical levels of BASI inside out?....but be quick there are limited course places. Check the ISIA page...
30/7/2008 BASI course ski regs 2008-9 The proposed ski regulation change for BASI courses [ISIA & ISTD] 17m for males and 15m for females...will be only a recommendation for 2008-09 and will become a stipulation in the following 2009-10 season.
